The Green Culture Conference logo

The Green Culture Conference is one of the groundbreaking events in Southeast Europe to address the role the Creative Industries play in environmental sustainability.

Those working in the Arts & Culture have always been social leaders. Without them, some of the greatest achievements, discoveries and historical moments would not have been possible. Artists and cultural workers are some of the most influential and strongest catalysts of change, and when it comes to sustainability, their presence is pivotal. This hands-on and interactive conference will bring to light the latest achievements and developments in sustainability within the Creative Industries. You will learn what your regional and international colleagues have been up to, share your own innovative ideas and projects, and gain a better understanding of what sustainability means in SEE. Through knowledge exchange, brainstorming, and workshops, you will set the sustainability agenda for the region.

Efforts to progress sustainability most definitely include sustainable building and architecture. Sustainable living is directly connected to sustainable building, which is especially pressing for this part of the vulnerable Adriatic coastline due to the high volume of developments over the past 20 years. Therefore, the conference will feature a special segment on Green Building.

Montenegro’s town of Tivat will be the host for this year’s conference. Its’ pristine and breathtaking landscape offers the ideal environment to inspire one another and creatively plan for the future.

We cannot ignore or deny the impact human activity has on the planet. Not only do we see environmental crisis around the world, but also social, economic and political turmoil. These issues are interrelated, and a sustainable approach can help mediate and resolve them. In SEE, the rapid transition and development over recent years has had profound affects on local cultural, economic and political life. As growth and development are increasingly putting pressure on resources and lifestyles, sustainability is the highest priority.

The Creative Industries have a profound ability and responsibility to affect change by inspiring others to live and work more sustainably. Therefore, people working in these sectors are in an ideal position to promote sustainability throughout the region.

When it comes to sustainability, there are hundreds of models and theories to choose from. Although we live in a global world, local places are still important and we need to address issues from the ground up; what works for one place may not work for another. Therefore, sustainability initiatives need to emerge organically and have support from regional and international leaders and passionate individuals.

Today in SEE there is a growing need to mobilize sustainability efforts that are already underway. There are many great projects and even more innovative ideas, but we need to join together and push the sustainability agenda forward with collective force.

The Green Culture Conference is organized by the international cultural organization Krug, which is dedicated to promoting the Arts and Culture of SEE through local and international collaboration. Based in London, Krug has branches in Skopje, Cetinje and Podgorica. Through pioneering cultural events, Krug fosters intercultural awareness and provides a platform for cross-border and cross-cultural collaboration. Krug has been awarded for their efforts in introducing new and innovative events and promotional activities.
